How's the Fishing?

Attention Freshwater Anglers!

The N.J. Division of Fish & Wildlife would like anglers to help us evaluate our programs by participating in our E-Fishing Log Program. By taking a few minutes to let us know where you've been fishing and what you've been targeting and catching (or not catching!) we can make the best use of your fishing license dollars to stock public waters and to direct our fisheries management efforts. As with all surveys, the information you provide is confidential. (See the "Privacy Notice" for state policy on submitted information).

If you have been fishing in the last several weeks, please fill out an E-Fishing Log sheet. We want to hear from you whether you've been successful, fishing hard but getting skunked, or just out relaxing and enjoying nature. Knowing that you're out fishing and not catching anything is just as important to us as finding out about your successful fishing trips. Please complete the E-Fishing Log Form below on a regular basis to answer our question, "how's the fishing?". (Information about each question can be viewed by clicking on the question's number.)

For questions regarding the survey, or to report problems, please e-mail njfishandwildlife@dep.state.nj.us.

Thank you for submitting your information. The data from this survey will be used to increase your enjoyment of fishing in New Jersey!

Question Explanations

The survey form is not difficult to fill out. Here's a question-by-question guide to what information we are requesting:

Question 1) We ask for your fishing license number to validate the data (i.e. so that we know answers came from an angler). If you are among the groups not required to purchase a license (senior citizen, juvenile, etc.) please put your name in this box on the right and tell us your status (senior, juvenile, etc.).

Question 2) We want to know the date when you were fishing, not the date when you are filling out the survey form.

Question 3) Select the county where you were fishing from the pull down menu. NOTE: You may have to select a different county and re-select the correct county to display the waters in Question 4 if your initial submission had one or more errors.

Question 4) Select the lake or river where you were fishing from among the waters listed for that county. If you don't see the name of the water in that list, select "OTHER NOT LISTED" which is found as the last item on the pull-down list, and let us know where you were fishing in question 14. NOTE: Older browsers may not display water menu list - if so, please enter water in Question 14. If your initial submission had one or more errors you may have to select a different county and then re-select the correct county to display the waters in Question 4.

Question 5) If you waded into the water or fished from a dock or pier, please select "shore."

Question 6) Select from the pull-down menu how many people you were fishing with.

Question 7) Select the appropriate button to answer whether you will be reporting on the fish caught by all the people you were fishing with or for yourself only.

Question 8) Select the kind of fish that you were trying to catch. If you were not targeting any particular kind of fish or more than one kind of fish, please select "ANYTHING"

Question 9) Select from the pull down menu how many hours that you fished on the day that you are reporting.

Question 10) Indicate the total number of fish of all kinds that you caught by selecting from the pull down menu.

Question 11) Indicate your degree of satisfaction with the fishing by clicking on the appropriate button

Question 12) Indicate whether you would fish in this lake or stream again by clicking on the appropriate button.

Question 13) In this table, indicate how many fish of each species and size group that you caught. Please report all of the fish that you caught and not just those that were kept. An exact measurement is not important for fish that were released, just estimate which size group they were in.

Question 14) If there was anything noteworthy about the fish you caught, please let us know. This is also the place to give the name or location of the water body where you were fishing if you answered "OTHER NOT LISTED" or the menu does not display in question #4.

Question 15) Here's your chance for feedback. Let us know what's on your mind, whether it's about our stocking and fisheries management of this particular body of water, or for the fresh waters of the state in general.

Question 16) If we may contact you regarding the answers you gave us on this survey, please give us your e-mail address. If we receive a sufficient response to this survey we will periodically summarize the data and send you a summary of what other have been catching.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey and help us to make better use of your fishing license dollars.
