Hourly Technician - Marine Fisheries

Background: Fisheries Biology

Location: Nacote Creek Research Lab, Port Republic, Atlantic County

Work Week: Varies, Monday through Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Job Description: The New Jersey Marine Fisheries Administration requires one part-time commercial fisheries technician. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Input of data into a database related to:
    • Commercial harvester trip reports
    • Vessel trip reports
    • Biological specimen data
  • Filing and organization of hard-copy data
  • Field-survey and dockside biological sample collection
  • Dissection, removal, and preparation of fish aging structures
  • Communication and outreach with commercial fishermen
  • Maintenance of job-related equipment
Other responsibilities and opportunities may include:
  • Participation in Administration fishery field-surveys
  • Facility maintenance
  • Administrative assistance

Requirements: College graduate or student working towards a degree in marine science, natural resource management, environmental studies, or a related field. Candidates must possess a valid government-issued driver license. Preferred skills include:

  • Navigating and entering data using:
    • Standard Atlantic Fisheries Information System (SAFIS)
    • Microsoft Access and Excel

Compensation: $12.00 per hour
