Student Summer Programs
Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center

 

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife and its partners will be offering teenage students three exciting summer programs based at the Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center, located within NJ's first Marine Conservation Zone. The facility is located just off Island Beach State Park in Barnegat Bay and provides a beautiful location for these unique, educational, fun and exciting experiences.

Sedge Island Research Experience - June 27-29, 2020
The NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, in partnership with the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ is offering a 3-day 2-night program open to students going into grades 10 through 12 in September, 2020. This program is ideal for student considering attending college to major in marine science or environmental studies. During this program students will learn about various research methods through hands-on data collection, hear from a local college professor about research they are conducting, and learn how to keep a journal.

Cost is $315* and includes all meals, lodging, instruction and equipment.

Sedge Island Field Experience July 21-24, 2020
The NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, in partnership with the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ, is offering a 4-day 3-night program for students going into grades 7, 8 and 9 in the fall of 2020. Students will spend their days immersed in the salt marshes of Barnegat Bay while exploring the ecosystem by kayak, living a conservationist lifestyle, and learning first-hand about research from biologists.

Cost is $425* and includes all meals, lodging, instruction and equipment.

Sedge Island Fishing Experience August 27-30, 2020
The NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, in partnership with the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ, is offering this 4-day 3-night program open to students going into grades 8 and 9 in the fall of 2020. Students will spend the first three days fishing the area while learning about the surrounding ecosystem. On the final night one parent or guardian will join the group and spend the last night learning from the students, and the following day fishing with them. No fishing experience necessary!

Cost is $475* and includes all meals, lodging, instruction and equipment.
